MAYBELLINE (US) 

The Maybelline Company was established in Chicago by Thomas Lyle Williams in 1915. Williams saw his more seasoned sister Mabel applying a combination of Vaseline and coal residue to her eyelashes to give them a hazier, more full look. He adjusted it with a science set and delivered an item sold privately called Lash-Brow-Ine. Williams renamed his eye beautifier Maybelline in her honor. In 1917, the organization delivered Maybelline Cake Mascara, "the principal present day eye corrective for ordinary use," and Ultra Lash, the main mass-market program, during the 1960s.

 

In 1967, the organization was sold by Williams to Plow Inc. (presently Schering-Plow) in Memphis, Tennessee.
