What is Hypoallergenic?

Hypoallergenic means "below normal" or "slightly" allergenic, was a term first used in a cosmetics campaign in 1953. It is used to describe items (especially cosmetics and textiles) that cause or are claimed to cause fewer allergic reactions. Or the definition of hypoallergenic is having a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic reaction.

FDA issued the final regulation on "hypoallergenic" cosmetics on June 6, 1975. 

FDA regulations require companies to list all the ingredients used in their cosmetic products that claim to be "hypoallergenic" to avoid the consumers to use products that can cause them skin problems.

For many years, companies have claimed to produce "hypoallergenic" products in the market or "safe for sensitive skin" and "allergy tested". This kind of products simply states that the production are less prone or are less likely to cause irritations and  allergy reactions than the brands they are competing with. 

Consumers who are concerned that about how cosmetics affect their skin should know and understand the fact that most companies don't produce cosmetics that are 100% nonallergenic- cosmetic products that don't cause allergies. 

Companies produced hypoallergenic products since the ones that are produced years ago used harsh ingredients in their cosmetics that causes skin problems to their consumers. These kinds of ingredients are no longer used. 

Hypoallergenic basically means these products don't contain ingredient that mostly causes allergic reactions to people's skin. Hypoallergenic products are the best to use by those who have sensitive skin types, to reduce the possible skin reactions like redness, flaking, dryness, and bumps. It will ensure you that these products won't aggravate your allergy prone skin or sensitive skin. 

If you're going to buy new cosmetics or you're looking fro new brands to use, it's better t switch to hypoallergenic products in view of the fact that these are more gentler on the skin.
